Hogs Of War
Preview 11:42, 19 May 1999
And Gremlin’s
Little Piggy Went On To World Domination
Gremlin’s new Hogs Of War is a action war game like no other. Set at the time of World War I, this army blaster features pigs, bombs and just a little British humour.
Six armies of pigs, each representing a different nation, battle it out in vast, highly detailed 3D landscapes. Although this game may be more Monty Python than Montgomery, all the uniforms and landscapes are based on bona fide World War I clothing and settings, producing an unique look.
Players can take on three friends or computer opponents in a multi-pig-match, or indulge in one of the 40 single-player campaigns. The single-player maps have a variety of objectives from relatively straightforward reconnaissance missions right through to requests to destroy bridges and fortifications which require a little more daring.
In multi-pig-match mode players will have a squad of up to ten pigs each, but more can be enlisted if losses prove excessive. Each pig performs a number of different duties depending on rank and ability, ranging from mundane tasks like infantry patrols or trench digging through to bomb disposal and spying.
From the evidence of Gremlin’s E3 demo, Hogs Of Wars could well fill the gap that Worms 2 failed to span, and that’s not a bad thing.
Hogs Of War is due for a winter ’99 release.
Format: PC/
PlayStation Release Date: winter ’99
Price: tba
