News Entry Date -- November 29, 1998:
A new audio tape of Rik and Adrian Edmondson live at the Comic Strip in the early 80s has recently been released in the UK. More details on this to appear in the Projects section of this site soon! Also recently released in the UK is a videotape titled The Very Best of Bottom, which includes the unedited version of Holy and a scratch and sniff box set of all three live Bottom shows.

Rik is scheduled to appear as Merlin in the upcoming film Merlin: The Return. More information on the film can be found at the Adrian Paul Fan Club site.

Rik is scheduled to appear in the upcoming Jonathan Creek Christmas Special in the UK on December 24, 1998. Rik will also grace television screens in the UK on December 25 when his film Remember Me? is screened at 9:00pm on channel 4.

Angels in the underworld
RISK-takers might like a flutter on Out of Depth, a film about the 'orrible Sarf London underworld. Steon Films needs £620,000 and is hoping to raise the money through an Enterprise Investment Scheme. Investors get to visit the set and appear as a thug, sorry extra. Among the cast is the not so young one Rik Mayall, who is recovering well after his recent accident. "New films are always a risky venture," admits producer Stephen Cranny, "but we have a lot going for us." Don't hold your breath.

US cable channel BBC America will include Bottom on their Monday night schedule starting June 22 at 11:20pm. BBC America also currently runs Blackadder, which Rik made three appearances on.

The South Lincolnshire (UK) newspaper, The Herald and Post, recently ran a nice blurb about this webpage. Writer Ruth Livingstone wrote:

In the UK on First on Four on Wednesday April 8, a show about the Comic Strip will be broadcast. On April 12, the new Comic Strip film Four Men in a Car will be shown.


In the UK on April 1, a program about Saturday Night Live will be broadcast on First on Four. Rik will be shown in it, and there may possibly be an interview with him as well.


The film Guest House Paradiso, which Rik is working on with Ade Edmondson, is now going to be called Hotel Paradiso.


There's a Rocky Horror Picture Show/Shock Treatment convention planned for April 4 in New York City. Yes, Shock Treatment will be performed with a live cast! Rik is rumored to be one of the leads in an upcoming remake of Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. He, or alternately, Adrian Edmondson, is also rumored to be a lead in another film similar to the American movie, Falling Down.


Rik appeared on Radio 1 in the UK the week of January 12th, 1998 to promote Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis.


Upcoming Rik Mayall projects include a Comic Strip "reunion" special titledThree Men in a Car as well as a film with partner Adrian Edmondson titled Guest House Paradiso. It's rumored that Guest House Paradiso will either be similar to the characters in Bottom, or that it will be about Richie and Eddie running a hotel.


Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis opened in the UK on January 16, 1998. A review and ad for the film appeared in Time Out (issue #1430).


The January 14 edition of British newspaper The Independent contained a short interview with Rik.


Rik appeared on the Des O'Conner show on January 14, and the Richard and Judy show recently to promote Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis.
